Regular (short) backgammon

General rules

The backgammon board has 24 triangles of alternating colors (black-white, black-white), which are called points. The board is divided into 4 parts, quadrants, each of which has 6 lines. You and your opponent have an inner (home) board and outer board, which are separated by a ridge down the center of the board called the bar. After a checker is killed, it is placed on the bar and it comes to life only in your opponent's home. When the game starts, the checkers are in the initial position. The total number of checkers in the game is 30, 15 of one color and 15 of another color. At first, the checkers are placed according to the following principle: 2 checkers at the 24th point for each player, 5 checkers at the 13th point, 3 checkers at each 8th point and 5 checkers at each 6th point. The direction of the game goes from your opponent's home to their outer board—to your home.

Game course

Game objective: To get all the checkers in your home and then take them off the board. The first player to remove all the checkers from the board is the winner of the current game.

Game start: At the beginning of the game, both players roll the dice. The one who gets the highest number starts the game.

Checkers moves: the checkers are always moving in a circle, in steps equal to the numbers that have fallen on the dice.

The numbers on the checkers mark different moves. For example, in case of 4 and 6, the player can move a checker 4 spaces to an open point, and then move a checker 6 spaces. Or they can move the checker by 10 points only if the intermediate point is open.

Checkers always move from the outer board to the home.

White checkers moves direction. Black checkers are moving in the opposite direction.

If a double falls out (2:2, 3:3, 4:4, etc.), the player is given four turns.

Two ways that white can play if 5:3 drops out.

A checker can only move to open points that are not occupied by two or more checkers. A checker can move to a point where there is one checker belonging to an opponent. In this case, the enemy checker is considered killed and is placed on the bar.

The board (bar) is the central line that separates the outer board from the inner board, and the stone that hits it is out of the game until it is brought to life in the opponent's home.

In order to protect yourself from such cases, it is necessary to make moves in a way that you avoid points where one checker will be placed. Player controls the point if at least two of their checkers are placed on it.

Checker revival: checkers revive on points that roll out on dice (for example, If there is 4:2, revival is possible on two or four). It is not necessary to kill the checkers. At a point where there are two or more checkers, the checkers do not revive, and the player skips a turn. If a player has taken all 6 points in their home, you cannot revive your checkers until your opponent opens at least one point. If a player has checkers on a bar, all of them must be revived before he or she can play another checker.

If white rolls 4:6 but one of the checkers is on a bar, the player must place the checker at point 4 in black's home, since point 6 is taken by black.

Bearing off checkers from the board: bearing off checkers from the board is the final stage of the game and it starts after all the checkers are in your home. Once the checkers are in your home, they are bearing off the board according to the numbers on the dice (for example, if 5:3 rolls, you can remove one checker each from points 3 and 5). You can bear off one checker from the board and make one simple move during the bearing off process. Each roll is performed completely (for example, if 3 is rolled, you cannot make a move to 5). If a player cannot make a move, they miss the turn. The first player to bear off all fifteen checkers wins the game.

Dave (doubled stakes): players at a table with doubling/tripling, etc., can offer each other dave (doubled stakes). This function is available during the player's turn, before they roll the dice. Doubled stakes mean that the number of points that they will receive for winning will be multiplied by the number that is chosen for doubling (x2, x3, x4, x5, x6).

The player who accepts the challenge will have the advantage of offering their opponent double: base (chari, panji, shesh). If that player refuses to double/triple, etc., they automatically lose the game, and their opponent receives the number of points that would have been counted if they had won with oin*.

In case the player agrees to double the stakes, the number of points will be as follows: points for the game result (1 point if winning with oin or 2 points if winning with mars) will be multiplied by the number of doubling (x2 if players play with doubling, x3 if playing with tripling, etc.).

Doubled game: if a player sits down at the table with "doubled game", the amount of the stake to the table is multiplied by the number of doubling.

For example, if the buy-in is equal 10 UAH, and the table where the player sits, is with triplication then 30 UAH will be charged. In this case, initially participants will play the game for 10 UAH. If during the battle the player will be offered to double the sum and they will refuse, then he will be counted as a defeated player in the game. In this case, opponent who offered the doubling will receive 10 UAH.

If player agrees to the double, then the amount of the original bet (10 UAH) is multiplied by 2. And if they do not agree to triple later, they lose 20 UAH (the amount to which the bet amount was increased at the last doubling, to which both participants agreed).

Thus, by sitting at the table with the doubling / tripling, etc., a participant can win / lose only the amount for which the game is currently being played (not necessarily the entire amount that was taken off at the time of sitting).

Long backgammon

General rules

The backgammon board has 24 triangles with alternating colors (black-white, black-white) which are called points. The board is divided into 4 parts, into quadrants, each of which has 6 lines. You and your opponent have an inner (home) and outer board, which are divided by a vertical section—bar. There are 30 checkers in total, 15 of one color and 15 of another color. First, the checkers are placed according to the following principle: all checkers at the 24th point for each player. The game goes from your opponent's home to their outer board—to your home.

Game progress

Attention! When creating a table in long backgammon, select the "Pair" function. Then you and your opponent will get 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 4-4 pairs and so on. If you get a pair, you will be able to make 4 moves according to the numbers on the dice. Otherwise, there will be no pairs during the game.

Goal: To get all the checkers into your home and then bear them off the board. The first player to bear off all the checkers wins the current round of the game.

Game start: To start the game, each player rolls the dice. The one who rolls the bigger number starts the game. Moving the checkers: the checkers always move in a circle, in steps equal to the numbers that drop out on the dice.

The numbers on the dice indicate different moves. For example, if there are 4 and 6, then the player can move the checker by 4 points, the end point must be open, and then they can move another checker by the next 6 points. Or they can move the checker by 10 points, but only if the intermediate point is open. In case of a doubles, player can move only one checker.

The checkers always move from the outer board to the home.

The first roll of dice has two rules exceptions:

1) If a player who starts the game, rolls one of the following combinations at the first dice roll: 6:6 (du-shesh), 4:4 (dor-cihar) or 3:3 (du-se), he may play 2 checkers.

2) If the player who starts the game first rolls one of the following combinations: 5:5 (du-besh), 2:1 (du-yak) or 6:2 (shesh-du) and his opponent then rolls one of the following combinations: 4:4 (dor-cihar), 5:5 (du-besh) or 6:2 (shesh-du), this last player may play two checkers instead of one.

It is forbidden to close (block) 6 points in a row if at least one opponent's checker is not in front of this block.

If the points are closed so that a player cannot play the combination, the combination is void.

In long backgammon, you cannot kill an opponent's checker. It is not possible to move the checker to the points occupied by the opponent. If a player can move a checker only by the number dropped on one of the die, and it is impossible to use the number marked on the second die, the second number is cancelled, and the player uses only the number dropped on one die.

Bearing off checkers from the board: bearing off the checkers is the final stage, and it starts after all the checkers have been placed in your home. Once all the checkers are in your home, they are removed from the board according to the numbers that fall on the dice (for example, if you have 5:3, you can bear off one checker each from points 3 or 5). In long backgammon there is also the possibility of doubled stakes (dave) and doubled game.

Game results can be as follows:

Oin—the situation at the end of the game, where the loser was able to take out at least 1 checker, while his opponent took all his checkers to the board. It is counted as 1 point.

Mars—game ending, where the loser could not bring all his checkers to the house, while his opponent took all of them off the board. Such an option brings 2 points.

If game with dave goes up to 4 points and one of opponents has finished the game with "Mars" result, that is equal to 2 points, then 2 (points for "Mars") x 2 ( number of points up to which game is conducted) = 4. Therefore the participant of a game who has finished game with "Mars" result is considered winner.

Another example: the game is played up to 7 points, the doubling was offered by participant #1, to which player #2 agreed. Then, in the same game player number 2 offers to triple the number of points.

If player No. 1 refuses, he will be defeated and player No. 2, who offered to triple the bet, will be awarded a victory with oin (1 point), which will be multiplied by the number of doubled points, with which both participants agreed (in this case—x2). Thus, the players will start a new game with a score of 0:2, and they will be able to double, triple and so on again.

If one of the players has finished the game with the result "Mars" which is equal to two points, then 2 (points for "Mars") x 3 (in case of tripling) = 6. Player who has finished the battle with the result "Mars" is considered to be the winner of the game, and if in the next game he gets 1 more point, he will win the match (as the game was played up to 7 points).

Hyper-backgammon

The hyper-backgammon rules are the same as in regular (short) backgammon. The only difference is that instead of 30 checkers, the game involves 6 checkers—3 of one color and 3 of another. Checkers initial position: each at 24, 23 and 22 points.

The commission in backgammon is 5%.
